14 Years.

Joe and I celebrated our 14th anniversary this week. It isn’t often that we get out alone, without one of the kids with us. We decided to head to Minneapolis for a night and just hang out together. Nothing fancy planned, just the two of us without having to strap kids in and out of car seats, bedtimes, if one of the kids is boread or if locations are kid friendly or not.

I decided to do some bidding for a hotel room on Priceline. Because our anniversary is the day before Valentine’s Day, restaurants are usually full, there are “Valentine’s Day Specials” and things like that. It also means that prices are higher. We knew that we wanted to stay downtown Minneapolis and I was SHOCKED when my $50 bid was accepted by the downtown Hilton. The same room was selling on their website for $200 on the night we were arriving. This is the view from our room. The building across the street had cute little hearts floating up the top of the building.

We ate dinner at a restaurant that was featured on the Food Networks “Diners Drive-Ins and Dives” call Psycho Suzi’s. We loaded up on appitizers and shared the pizza that was highly recommended by the show.  I wasn’t a fan, but Joe really liked it. Canadian Bacon, pineapple and rum soaked raisins. I’m up for trying anything but that just wasn’t my cup of tea. Later we went to Yum! and bought a couple of cupcakes to take back to our room. We swam in the pool, soaked in the hot tub and like the party animals we are, we were sleeping by midnight. The excitement of knowing that Annie wasn’t going to wake us up overnight or at 6:00 am was worth the price of the hotel room alone. It’s been a loooooong time since I’ve had a full nights sleep.

We woke up the next morning, walked  around downtown Minneapolis doing a little shopping. We had lunch a Fogo de Chao where they surprised us with this cute dessert.

The rest of the day was spent doing things that others wouldn’t find interesting, but we like. We went to the new Whole Foods store to look around, we went to Costco and then stopped off at picked up some Valentine’s treats for the girls.

It was a good day. Maybe next year we’ll take that trip back to Vegas that we’ve been talking about.
